Either way thought this review with the pipe sizes might help someone and wanted to share. That gets expensive and has more spots to leak. Plus they have you screwing multiple fittings together to make it work. Was super happy to not have to deal with the local menards as they don't alway know what they are talking about. I'm not a plumber but this threaded up perfectly and didn't leak a bit. Came with extra rubber gaskets (which I needed!) So that was a major plus. The existing hose was a 1/2" FIP (female iron pipe size) so this adapter is a 1/2 MIP (male iron pipe size) to 3/8 male compression sized fitting. Compression fittings are suitable for connecting various kinds of plumbing pipes such as brass, chrome and plastic. So my existing supply line had a tag on it so I can share the exact thing I used it for. Most people on the reviews were talking about RV applications and I was skeptical of this working but free prime Shipping and returns I thought what the heck. So my situation is a little odd but I needed to connect onto existing water supply lines and reduce down to 3/8 compression fittings. What is on the end of that braided hose in the pic in your first post fits a male compression without actually compressing any pipe with a compression sleeve. Easy to connect, and hex design is helpful the wrench to tighten.
